INTRODUCTION What is a SOP and why is it needed? SOP by definition: written document outlining procedures used to preform activities Experiments, Instrument Operation, Laboratory Behavior/Expectations, Writing/Report Results… SOP by use: Used to train new and experienced personnel Outline Safe and Responsible Procedures Developed to produce Quality Results If followed they produce Consistent Results

HOW TO WRITE SOP Tips to writing quality SOP Each SOP should have a clear purpose or goal Explain dangers or hazards upfront especially in experimental SOPs If procedures are long split into subsections so users can focus on one portion at a time If applicable utilize flow charts Continuously edit SOPs to add missing information or clarify existing portions
