To reflect upon the importance of Muhammad as a role model for Muslims and how this can help faith

3. Who was the Prophet Muhammad?
Regarded as the most important Prophet (messenger of Allah) in Islam
He is so important that Muslims must also declare belief in Muhammad as part of the Shahadah
Because Muhammad is such a key figure, Muslims also look to Muhammad and try to live up to his example of his faith in Allah and his goodness.

Using the Biography of Muhammad, draw a brief timeline of the key events of Muhammad’s life.

1) If you were able to speak to Muhammad today, what three questions would you like to ask him? (Try to think of interesting and ‘open’ questions about his experiences).
2) How do you think the Night Journey would have changed Muhammad?

5. How is Muhammad an inspiration to Muslims today?
Muslims will look to Muhammad as a role model for many things
1) With the person next to you, write down the different ways Muhammad could be a role model to Muslims using the cards you have been given (try to come up with at least 4)
2) Once you have done this, pick the two qualities that you think would be the most inspirational for a Muslim in their daily life and write a paragraph explaining why you have made this choice.

Thinking philosophically: Do you think it matters whether the Night Journey was a dream or an event that really happens? Give reasons for your answer. Try to look at both sides of the argument if you can.

Can I describe the main events of Muhammad’s life?
Can I explain why Muslims believe that Muhammad is such an important figure?
Can I discuss and evaluate which qualities of Muhammad make him a good role model for Muslims today?
