Procedure 1.Write a hypothesis predicting the effects of force on range. Record this hypothesis on the “Relating Force and Range” Worksheet 2.Position your team’s catapult on the Start Line 3.Tape the protractor to the side of your catapult. Be sure the protractor is centered so the firing arm rests at 90 degrees and 0 degrees is parallel with the trigger. 4.Use the 1.5 gm clay balls. Use your stopwatch to time the flight of the clay ball and record on your data sheet. Mark the distance in the same way. 5.Repeat these steps an additional 5 times. Vary the angle of the firing arm. Record this data on your Force and Range Worksheet 6.Measure the distance each clay ball traveled in inches. Convert into centimeters and record the value on your worksheet 7.Calculate the force of each launch and record the values on your worksheet. 8.Construct a graph to helprepresent the data. Complete the worksheet and turn it in 9.Research Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion. Once your team understands the idea of “Newtons”, calculate the data on your worksheet. 10.Complete a lab report using your hypothesis as your guide. Did your hypothesis work out? Support it with data you mined. Did your hypothesis not work? Why/Why not? What did the data show you that disproved your hypothesis?
