5 The Beginnings: IMPROVING COMMUNITY WELL- BEING BY REDUCING THE IMPACT AND INCIDENCE OF CANCER Originally developed in America and called ‘I Can Cope’ in 1970s Adapted by the Victoria Cancer Council in 1980s and called Living with Cancer Education Programme Brought to New Zealand in 1990s and adapted to Living Well Programme in 2000s

7 Aims: IMPROVING COMMUNITY WELL- BEING BY REDUCING THE IMPACT AND INCIDENCE OF CANCER Increase knowledge of disease process Investigate activities that assist maintenance of health, eg, nutrition, exercise, management of acute/chronic side-effects, psychosocial issues, resilience Assess reliable sources of information Improve communication
