 Number 4.  George could never loathe Lennie – he cares about him  He is more like a father than a brother to Lennie, taking care of his needs  George did feel guilty about how he treated Lennie, but this is not the only thing keeping them together – Lennie has become like family to George

 Number 3 is not true. The other events all show how dangerous Lennie is as a character, even though he is considered to be a “nice fella”.  A giant rabbit comes out of Lennie’s head at the end of the novel and tells him “You ain’t fit to lick the boots of no rabbit”

1. Who dreams of being in the movies? 2. Which character reads a lot of law books? 3. Who shoots Candy’s dog? 4. What is the name of the river in the novel? 5. What is the name of Lennie’s aunt? 6. Which character consoles George at the end of the novel? 7. What does Curley wear on his hand? 8. What is Curley’s wife’s name?

1. Curley’s wife 2. Crooks – he learns carefully about his civil rights 3. Carlson 4. Salinas 5. Aunt Clara 6. Slim – none of the others understand 7. “A glove fulla vaseline” 8. Not one of the characters ever call her by her name

 Candy  Slim  Curley’s wife  George  Lennie  Curley  Crooks

1. Slim – he has authority and the respect of the men 2. Curley – he is the boss’s son, but because the men don’t respect him they always side with Slim 3. Curley’s wife – although no one listens to her but Lennie, a false accusation could lead to real trouble for one of the men 4. George – has limited power, but can always make his own way in life and move on if he needs to

5. Lennie – he is only empowered because he has George. Left to his own devices Lennie would be completely defenceless and meet with a terrible fate. 6. Candy’s disabilities and age make him almost powerless. He is very insecure about his future and shares George and Lennie’s dream of independence. He is waiting to be “canned” 7. Crooks – as a black man living in a racist time, Crooks is not even allowed in the bunkhouse. He is completely isolated and turns to his law books to learn his civil rights. He is at the mercy of the others

 If you answered all the questions,  WELL DONE!  If you found the test difficult, why not do a little more revision and then try it again?
