Ode to Hope Yeah…I have to grade your research papers, so please enjoy this ripped off and completely mutilated version of John Keats’ “To Hope” (and, for the record, NO, you may not use any part of someone else’s poem. Make your own up. Life is cruel.) Should Disappointment, parent of Despair, Strive for her son to seize my careless heart; When, like a cloud, he sits upon the air, Preparing on his spell-bound prey to dart: Chase him away, sweet Hope, with visage bright. Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed, And keep that fiend Despondence far aloof. Fright him as the morning frightens night! Dreams wave thy silver pinions o'er my head, Peep with the moon-beams through the leafy roof. ABABCDECDEABABCDECDE

Quote #1 "O.K. Someday—we're gonna get the jack together and we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs and—" "An' live off the fatta the lan'," Lennie shouted. "An' have rabbits. Go on, George! Tell about what we're gonna have in the garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter and the stove, and how thick the cream is on the milk like you can hardly cut it. Tell about that George." "Why'n't you do it yourself? You know all of it." " No…you tell it. It ain't the same if I tell it. Go on…George. How I get to tend the rabbits.”

Quote #2 “They fell into a silence. They looked at one another, amazed. This thing they had never really believed in was coming true. George said reverently, ‘ Jesus Christ! I bet we could swing her.’ His eyes were full of wonder.”

Quote #3 “[Crooks] hesitated. ‘… If you … guys would want a hand to work for nothing— just his keep, why I'd come an' lend a hand. I ain't so crippled I can't work like a son-of-a-bitch if I want to.’”

“Hope is a thing with feathers—” by Emily Dickinson

Fine, here, adorable Dreams (and look, the doll is in a bear suit. Maybe this is three cuils away and a puppy has a Lennie as a pet and is dreaming that he will get to tend the humans, but all the humans are really bears. You are handed a hamburger… And if you don’t get that allusion, you need to look up cuil theory on YouTube. Hee-lair- e-us.

OR how ‘bout this video “Hope” (it’s says “I wish” over and over, “wishes” are dreams…I wish I had Channing Tatum)
