Aim To have an understanding of the different ways people try to prove that God exists

Starter activity In pairs come up with five things that help you to believe that God exists.

From the earliest of time people have always questioned whether there is a divine being a God. Over many years many theologians and philosophers have been occupied with this question, trying to answer it one way or the Other. There developed in the Church a tradition of Attempting to prove God exists by using Philosophical statements

Why have people tried to prove God exists? In pairs you have one minute to discuss why you think people have tried and still do try to prove that God exists?

Can we prove God exists? Many people would say that by his very nature this is an impossible thing to do. God cannot be put in a test tube or under a microscope, tested and examined. Why? This would make faith redundant!

The Church itself declared that God’s Existence couldn’t be proved, but man Could come to knowledge of God through both reason and experience.

Tasks What do we mean by Faith? Write a dictionary definition. Make a list of other things you think could be used to prove that God exists and explain how they can be used.

Homework Find out about the Life and work of St Thomas Aquinas.

Plenary You have one minute to write a sentence to explain what you have learnt today.
