2  Defination: A developmental reading disorder is a reading disability that occurs when the brain does not properly recognize and process certain symbols.  Always characterized by difficulties in word recognization, spelling, and decoding.  It is a linguastic problem and not a visual problem  Dyslexia is not a disease and have no relationship with the intelligent.

3  Genetic cause  Defect in a gene known as DCDC2  Problem in reading performance  Acquired dyslexia  Brain injuries  Trauma  stroke  Phonological processing  ability to see or hear a word, break it down to discrete sounds, and then associate each sound with letter/s that make up the word.  Deficit in this ability

4  Difficulties in this area such as:  Learning to speak  Organizing written and spoken language  Learning letters and their sounds  Memorizing number facts  Spelling  Reading  Learning a foreign language  Correctly doing math operations

5  There are many test to diagnose the patient with Dyslexia such as:  Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery  Peabody Individual Achievement Tests-Revised (PIAT)  Wechsler Individual Achievement Tests (WIAT)  Kaufman Tests of Educational Achievement (KTEA) Bender Gestalt Test of Visual Motor Perception  MRI scan  Different in size of the area part involving in reading

6  Treated through education  Sooner is better  Drugs use only if :  Dyslexia + attention deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
