Spreadsheet I n Concepts & operations
2
Concepts n Workbook: Excel file n Worksheet: sheet n Row: 1-???? n Column: A - Z, AA - ?? n Cell n Cell address e.g. A5
3
Formula n starts with = n operators: +, -, *, /, (),, =, <>, =, and, or, not n functions: average(), sum(), if(), max(), min(), left(), mid(), right()
4
Cell address (1) n relative address –update automatically when the formula is copied to another cell –the relative position of the referred cell with respect to the current cell is recorded
5
Cell address (2) n absolute address –the address will not change even if the formula is copied to another cell –the exact position of the referred cell is recorded
6
Editing worksheet n create, open, retrieve, save, save as n printing worksheet –one worksheet = one page? –page setup n Insert/delete a row/column n name a range n cut and paste, erase a range n split windows and freeze heading
7
Formatting n Column width and row height n input date, number, text, time format n border and shading
8
Data Manipulation n copy formulae n autofill n sorting –multiple keys –ascending and descending
9
Graphs n charts are more attractive than a table of data n easier to interpret data trend with a chart n bar chart, pie chart, line chart n chart components: title, labels, legend n adding graph –on the same worksheet –on a new worksheet
10
Column/bar chart n general purpose n usually used in data sets, which consist of qualitative descriptions n e.g. statistics of examination results n e.g. Sales amount in recent years
11
Pie chart n used to present data describing the composition of a whole n greater sector represents greater proportion
12
Line chart n best for presenting data set where values between two categories can be interpolated
13
XY/Scatter chart n for plotting mathematical functions
14
Spreadsheet applications n calculate final mark from several component papers n quotation n sales trend/financial report n solving equation n what-if analysis/data analysis n simple database manipulation –sorting, grouping, pivot table
