Children have 4 phonics lessons a week Phonics is aimed to develop children's reading and spelling In May children will sit a phonics screening test they will be tested on 40 words, 20 real words and 20 pseudo words (nonsense words) Please see separate PowerPoint for further information

Once individually, once guided and a book change every day (if read) Improved concentrated reading Discuss words Quality, not quantity Re-read to self correct Look for picture clues/sound out words ORT is the main scheme, but other types of books used Help foster a genuine love of books Try to read with your child every night or morning if possible Question understanding of the book – orally and written Running records

Monday and Thursday Please ensure all PE kits are in school (fully labelled). Check pumps at half term please! Your child will be expected to get changed independently in Year 1. Allowing your child to dress themselves in the morning before school, will support them when getting changed for P.E. Buttons prove very tricky for small hands, please practise at home if your child struggles.

Please remember to label EVERYTHING! If you need to speak to a member of staff we are available before school starts until 8.55am, unless we are on duty. If a quick word is needed staff are available once all children have been safely sent home to their parents. If you require a longer appointment please ring Mrs Kirkby to arrange a time and date. There are two parent’s evenings: October and March. End of year reports are sent out in July. Check out our website for information, fun and photos!
