2 Biography o Born February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois o His first wife was Jane Wyman o He had 2 kids Maureen and Michael o His second wife was Nancy Davis Reagan o Graduated from Dixon high school o He enrolled at Eureka college in Illinois on an athletic scholar ship o Majored in economics and sociology o Graduated in 1932 o Died on June 5 2004 in his Los Angeles home at age 93 o Nickname was from his father “Dutch” saying he resembled “A Fat Little Dutchman”

3 Business and job experience o After he graduated in 1932 he then found work as a radio sports announcer in Iowa. o In 1937 he signed a 7 year contract with the Warner Brothers movie studio. o Ronald Reagan initially chose a career in entertainment o Appeared in more than 50 films o He served 2 terms as governor in California o Performed in school plays o During summers he worked as a lifeguard in Dixon o Played football ran track captain of swim team o During World War 2 he was disqualified from combat duty due to poor eye sight then spent time making training films

4 Presidency o Vice President- George W. Bush o Defeated Jimmy Carter o Largest number ever won by an American presidential candidate o Longest lived president at that time o Originally a Democrat Reagan ran for a US presidency as a conservation Republican and won 2 terms beginning in 1980

5 Life After Presidency o He spent time organizing his memoirs and supervising the creation of the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley California. o Tried to go on vacations weekly o He went back to his wealthy home in Los Angeles o He addressed a letter to Americans saying “My fellow Americans, I have recently been effected with Alzheimer's disease.” o He spent the rest of his life relaxing

6 Summary Ronald Reagan was a great president. When he increasingly reduced taxes, Americans were very pleased. Ronald Reagan's biggest accomplishment in presidency was to improve the self confidence that America had by strengthening the nation's economy. He did this by reducing prices, increasing employment and cutting taxes to nearly 25 percent. He also started a war against drugs, limit the growth of social spending, and increasing defense spending and built up the military. Although, when he gave speeches he had false information. Americans were very upset by the dishonest speeches.
