21. Amendment Process  2/3 of BOTH houses (to pass a proposed amendment and send it to the states’ legislatures. The states then have up to seven years to vote on the proposal. It takes 3/4 (38) states’ approval of the amendment in order for it to be added to the Constitution  Constitutional Convention to be called for by 2/3 (33) of the states’ legislatures. At such a convention, one or more amendments can be proposed and then sent to the states’ legislatures (or states’ conventions) for approval – again, 3/4 of the states’ legislatures must approve. (This method has not been used).
