INTRODUCTION Global financial and economic turbulence in the business world require creative managerial ideas. Practitioners, scholars, educationalists and researchers are all thinking of new management ideas. This newness is what makes the study of management dynamic as it never stands still.

Management experience As the HR Manager of a small IT firm: TECHNOLOGY in East London consisting of 15 employees and have made slow progress in financial terms due to the fact that the organization is run by instinct and not by management knowledge.

What is ‘contemporary management issues’ It is not about deviating from the ideas or models or theories of the great scholars like W.E. Deming, Kanter Rosabeth, Max Weber, McGregor, Maslow, Karl Marx, Taylor, et cetera, but an attempt to deepen the knowledge to make it compatible with the current world. As the business world is constantly changing, so are managerial concepts to support the business and emerges from social change.

What is management? Lets put theories, models, jargons or professional terms to rest for the time being and concentrate on what we think about management. Management is simply taking on responsibility to accomplish a task by creatively thinking about the problems, barriers, outcomes and people in the contemporary context. The contemporary context reveals contemporary management issues which will be shown in the following table.

Issues and questions Contemporary Management Issues And Key questions Leadership Are we seeing a new breed of managers? : Leadership is critical to the achievement of the aims of any organization and continuation, maintaining performance, adding value to the stakeholders and beneficiaries, managing the organization with true leadership skills and engaging state of the art management. Unfortunately, organizations are losing business due to lack of quality leadership Ethics Is ethics important and why? Is it just another rhetoric ? No. In order for any organization progress in a sustainable manner will require ethics. Diversity Will organizations loose out by ignoring diversity? It is about time the top management realize that diversity contribute to success. People Management Is there a link between managing people and performance? Yes. Negative people management have adverse effect on performance as people become disengaged. Globalization Globalization is least understood by the top management and as a result miss out on the opportunities of globalization Environment The business world is constantly changing which includes technology, economic, social, customer expectations. Talent Management It is the systematic attraction, identification, development, engagement and retention of employees at the present and potential and who have the ability to make a difference

Conclusion Employers and the market need managers who better equipped to confront the dilemmas of contemporary management issues and add value. And at the same time, understand the contextual business environment which is never the same as yesterday.
