Facility management can contribute to safety by putting in place strategies such as: ◦Gathering important info as part of the booking procedure. ◦Ensuring a safety orientation w/ visiting group and go over rules and regulations. ◦Develop a classification based on swim levels ◦Designate swim areas based on levels ◦Orient them on the design of the swim areas. ◦Use ID system for chaperones ◦Pairing swimmers are watch buddies ◦Implement buddy checks so everyone is accounted for. ◦Worksheet 3.1

Emergency Action Plans EAP Video – 8:00 EAPs describe everyone’s responsibilities in the event of an emergency. You’ll learn and practice EAPs at in- services and orientations.

In Water Emergency Rescuing LG should: ◦Activate EAP w a signal ◦Perform the appropriate rescue ◦Provide emergency care as needed ◦Report the incident, advise patrons to precautions so it doesn’t happen again, and release the victim. Minors should be released to appropriate persons. ◦Gather all info needed before releasing the victim.

In Water Emergency Assisting LGs should: ◦Provide back up surveillance or clear the area. ◦Assist with rescue if needed ◦Summons EMS if needed ◦Bring additional rescue equipment if needed ◦Assist with crowd control ◦Meet and direct EMS personnel

When Calling 911 What info should be given: ◦Identify yourself ◦Briefly and quickly explain the situation ◦Explain the purpose of the call (I NEED AN AMBULANCE) ◦Give the location ◦Answer any questions the best to your knowledge ◦DO NOT hang up until the call-taker tells you to do so.

Water Rescues at or Near the Surface Water Rescue Skills I Video – 8:00 WE ARE IN THE WATER THE NEXT TWO DAYS!! Be prepared. If you have to make up, get changed early and get in the water fast.
