1 Assignment 1 – General Feedback I didn’t deduct points for no capital letters for the name of your major ✕ ‘Thank you for reading my email’ short paragraphs, but not one new line per sentence avoid starting sentences with ‘but’, ‘and’, ‘so’ in formal emails no (small) numbers in formal emails symbols – SF = sentence fragment, RoS = run-on- sentence try to use compound sentence, and not all simple sentences follow instructions

8 TASK 1 – Write a formal invitation i.write an e-mail to your professor inviting him to attend an end of semester meal with you and a few of your classmates Or ii. invite a professor of yours (with whom you are quite close) to your house warming party Follow the structure of the informal e-mail (on the previous slide). However, you must ensure that this e-mail is formal. See the next slide for useful expressions.

10 TASK 2 – Reply to an invitation (your first name), What’s up? Are you and your friends from the photography club doing anything on Thursday night? I’m having a house warming at my place. Would you like to come? People are coming round at about 7pm. Let me know! Kevin A senior member of the university photography club (that you have just joined) has invited you to a house-warming party. Write 2 reply emails - one accepting, and one refusing the invitation. * He is 4 years older than you and you have only recently met him, so your reply should be on the formal side (but not too formal! – after all, he has set a fairly casual tone in his email. He is not a professor, just an older student.)
