2 IC6.16.5 Wash labels © Oxford University Press Clothes have labels sewn inside with symbols to explain how the clothes should be washed without damaging them.

3 IC6.16.5 Wash labels © Oxford University Press  Washing instructions are shown as a bowl of water.  The number inside is the maximum water temperature.  A line underneath tells you to use a special wash for synthetic fabrics.  A cross over the symbol tells you not to wash the item. 40°

5 IC6.16.5 Wash labels © Oxford University Press  Tumble-drying instructions are shown by a square with a circle inside.  A cross over the symbol means do not tumble dry.  One dot inside indicates a cool drying temperature.  Two dots mean a hot temperature can be used.

6 IC6.16.5 Wash labels © Oxford University Press A circle shows that it's safe to dry-clean the item.  The letter inside tells the dry-cleaners what type of solvent to use.  A cross over the circle means do not dry-clean.

7 IC6.16.5 Wash labels © Oxford University Press  Dots on the iron symbol show the maximum safe temperature to iron the item.  Three dots is very hot, one dot is cool.  A cross over the iron means do not iron.
