El Día de Los Muertos Por La Señora Bullitt

El Día de Los Muertos or the Day of the Dead, is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd.

Many Mexicanos prepare foods, ofrendas and go to the pantheon during this time.

It is a happy time when people remember their beloved ones who have passed on.

The special flower of the dead is the Marigold or zempachuchil.

Familias create ofrendas in their homes. The word ofrenda means offering in Spanish. They are also called altares or altars, but they are not for worshiping. The ofrendas are set up to remember and honor the memory of their ancestors.

People eat special bread called Pan de Muertos.

Children buy special candies called calaveritas.

Grownups talk about their loved ones and remember the happy times. This is not a sad time.

Familias visit the pantheon and sing songs.
