Research Aim: to find out viewpoints of using the European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages at Teacher Education, Department, the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art in the University of Latvia

Tasks 1.To carry out interviews with academics 2.To integrate the EPOSTL into the EFLT courses and conduct a questionnaire to learn students’ experience and attitude to the usage of the EPOSTL and e-EPOSTL

How? 78% admitted that most of them had actually looked through or used the EPOSTL in their work Used as a reference material when developing in- service and pre-service courses on teaching methodology and teacher’s practice Used to help students decide on the research topics To document one’s competences

Suggested improvements Analysing the statements Several statements are also vague, like what is “engaging beginning or smooth transition”, the interpretations might differ Apply in discussions

What/who encouraged you to use EPOSTL? Majority (83%) of students had filled the EPOSTL because they were asked to do it by their university teachers

Viewpoints on using EPOSTL 84% of the respondents admitted that the portfolio had helped them to understand how much they did not know and needed to learn 28% mentioned that it would be useful to return to it after some time

Viewpoints on using e-EPOSTL Majority (91%) admitted that it was a challenging and at times tedious process It was more difficult to see the progress in electronic form

Conclusion Challenging e-EPOSTL includes «Digital Natives» Critical thinking and autonomous learning e-EPOSTL motivates teachers to think about what, why and how
