1 STUDENT PARTNER ETHIC CODES By Ulubatlı Hasan Primary School

2 Aim The aim of the ethic codes is to help the integration of the children who have special needs at school and in the society with other children within the framework of tolerance, love and respect.

3 OUR QUESTIONNAIRE Our ethic codes are based on the results of “Student obtaining knowledge” questionnaire which was applied to 131 students. These 131 students are those who have students with special needs as a classmate. Cluster sampling method was used for chosing the classrooms.

4 STUDENT OBTAINING KNOWLEDGE QUESTIONNAIRE Our questionnaire is composed of two sections and starts with an instruction. The first section is composed of five sentences. The responses to these sentences are 3 likert type “I agree – neither agree or disagree – I disagree” The second part of our questionnaire is composed of five open-ended questions to learn the feelings and thoughts of our students.

According to these results, %63 percent of our students think that being in the same classroom with their friends with special needs has improved their behavior of realizing their deficiencies and compensating for it. 11 B1. Do you have any knowledge about the problem of your friend with special needs? If yes, what is it? According to the responses to that question, %85 percent of our students do not have enough knowlege about the problem of their friend with special needs.

12 B2. What do you think about having a friend with special needs in your classroom? According to the responses to that question, %91 percent of our students are happy with this situation.

13 B3. What are the good sides of having a friend with special needs in your classroom? According to the responses to that question, %31 percent of our students cited that their sense of responsibility, %34 percent of our students cited that their sense of love and respect, %6 percent of our students cited that their skills of dealing with difficulties, %4 percent of our students cited that their sense of help has improved.

14 B4. What do you gain from the activities with your friend with special needs? According to the responses to that question, %32 percent of our students cited that they gain sense of help, %28 percent of our students cited that they gain sense of responsibility, %19 percent of our students cited that they gain sense of patience.

15 B5. Which activities do you do with your friend with special needs? What else activities would you like to do? It was usually cited that art, physical education and dancing activities are done together. Students cited that performance work and dramas can also be done together.

16 Our Ethic Codes Base on the results of our questionnaire

17 1. Integration with the disabled ones is the investment to our future. 2. Integration with the disabled ones is to look ourselves in the mirror. 3. We must have knowledge about the disabled individuals we are living together. 3. My disabled friend and I are the one. 4. When I am together with my disabled friend, I know and evaluate myself better. 5. If they do not exist, we are not complete.

18 6. Integration is an opportunity for disabled and not disabled children. 7. We must share the difficulties to live together. 8. Being disabled is not a disease. 9. Let’s remove the obstacles for barrier- free living. 10. Obstacles consist of only sweet smile for those who love one another.

19 11. Our steps have no importance; the important thing is to cross the bridge of love and friendship by walking. 12. We may have obstacles, but they never prevent us from loving each other. 13. There is no obstacle in sharing love.
