Work Flow from Camera to Computer Take the image Store the image in your PC Immediately make a back-up copy, which is stored somewhere else Delete bad images form the computer Post-Process (edit) the best images.

Storage in Camera.JPEG (.jpg) – Joint Photographic Experts Group + International Standard, small size of images -Compressed format RAW (“Digital Negatives”) + can edit every pixel – Post Processing software – print large images - Large file size, proprietary – DNG format is suggested by Library of Congress

Transfer from Camera to Computer Memory Chips – Sensor in camera (“computer”) copies image to chip (Size and Speed are issues) – Check specs in manual Chip readers, cables, wi-fi Copy image from chip to computer 1.“Download” from camera to computer – check for viruses 2.Delete images from chip while in computer then 3.Reformat chip in camera

Organize Digital Images on Computer Files and Folders so that they can be found… – Albums Thumbnail (index) Actual file What is the name of the image? Where is it located? What type of file is it? (Sometimes)

Backup Photos to External Devices The “Cloud” Photography web sites (Flickr) Flask/thumb/jump drives Large Backup Devices Cut and paste = moving photos from place to paste Copy and paste = duplicating images
