THOERY OF MECHANISMS AND MACHINES Module-10 CAMS (DESIGN) Instructed by: Dr. Anupam Saxena Associate Professor Department of Mechanical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur anupams@iitk.ac.in FB 361 Prepared by: Abhishek Attal & Abhishek Sharma Final Year Dual Degree Student Department of Mechanical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur attalab@iitk.ac.in, abhishr@iitk.ac.in NL312, FB369

The follower starts to rise ‘simple harmonically’ from 0 to 40 mm in 90 degrees of cam rotation, dwells for the next 60 degrees, returns to a height of 25 mm via a parabolic profile in 90 degrees, dwells for another 60 degrees and returns finally to 0 mm ‘simple harmonically.’ Take the base circle diameter as 30mm. Find the cam profiles for (a) flat face follower, (b) roller follower with radius 5 mm and (c) roller follower with radius 5 mm and eccentricity 20 mm. Consider cam rotation counterclockwise in all cases. Y = Asin ; y = 40 for = /2 A = 40 Y = 40 – B( -5 /6)^2; B = 60/ ^2; Y = 40 – 60( / -5/6)^2
