Purpose: Remote monitoring of complex instrumentation using simple web- based tools. The web provides a unique environment for providing information in a global context. With a proper web browser, it is possible for an individual from almost any location in the world to view the same content as someone thousands of miles away. Modern transducers, video cameras, and appropriate software allow a researcher to inexpensively monitor (and record if necessary) information that allows the status of an experiment to be readily ascertained whether one is using a workstation adjacent to the instrument, at home in the evening, or on a business trip thousands of miles away.

Feedback “With respect to use of the instrument, it seems that most faculty prefer, understandably, a hands-on approach by their students to remote use. I think one of the better improvements that we have made has been the use of second party software to process and plot the NMR data back at their local institutions”

“You know that it takes a while for several students to analyze several samples on the instrument and it is difficult, then, to both teach NMR processing and interpretation of NMR spectra while also acquiring all the necessary data.”

“The second party software allows remote faculty to work individually with their students on processing and interpreting their data properly. These are just my thoughts for now and I'm sure that we'll have an opportunity to confer about this further.”
