History of Photography Cecelia Hill, Caroline Powers, Isabella Parker, and Willa Zaragoza

What is Photography?

The Picture That Started It All Nicéphore Niépce's earliest surviving camera photograph, circa 1826: View from the Window at Le Gras (Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France)

Use of Pictures Back Then Pictures a long time ago were mainly used for portraits of families or just self portraits in which they would sit or stand for a long period of time (depending on the camera) for the picture to develop. Pictures were also used for other things whether it be landscapes, houses, etc.

Use of Pictures Now Pictures now are used for a big variety of things (basically anything you can think of)

The First Selfie A photographer appears to be photographing himself in a 19th- century photographic studio. Note clamp to hold the poser's head still. An 1893 satire on photographic procedures already becoming obsolete at the time.

First Few Color Photographs FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: (1) A circa 1850 "Hillotype" photograph of a colored engraving. (2) The first color photograph made by the three-color method taken in 1861 by Thomas Sutton. (3) An 1877 color photographic print on paper by Louis Ducos du Hauron.

The First Camera The first camera was first invented in 1826 by Joseph Nicephore Niepce.

Cameras Over Time Different kinds of cameras have been invented by many different people over the years.
