Connected Home Roadmap Proposal: To undertake a roadmap in the area of Connected Home applications and technologies that will assist the industry in moving to a mass market environment.

Connected Home Roadmap Needs being addressed: Identification of the broad consumer applications that will drive the market to a mass market environment. Cooperative efforts amongst industry. Broader approach than can be mounted by an individual company. Non-technology driven approach. Lack of consumer awareness of Connected Home benefits.

Connected Home Roadmap Application Areas Life safety. Entertainment (including games). Communications (to/within the home, local/broad area networking, etc.). Control (energy management, comfort, lighting, appliances, etc.). Health and telemedicine. Education and informatics. Small Office/Home Office.

Connected Home Roadmap Deliverables A better understanding of applications of value to the consumer - move the industry to a mass market environment; Direction on the technologies required to support these applications - specific markets; Identification of the technology gaps that need to be addressed; Success and risk factors to be considered; and Increased awareness of the Connected Home amongst non-traditional industry players, the distribution channel and the consumer.

Connected Home Roadmap Project Management A balanced steering committee of 8-12 industry representatives: – key industries and research/academic centers, governmental agencies and developers/contractors –Broad organizational representation ( technical support, marketing, research and development, financial, manufacturing, etc. Representatives from funding companies. Chaired by an industry representative. Meet approximately five (5) times over the course of the study, in addition to holding conference calls.

Connected Home Roadmap Next Steps Formalize funding agreements and arrange contracts – mid May Steering committee meeting - mid May –Finalize direction –Set requirements for RFP –Identify potential contractors Issue RFP - end of May Interview and select contractor - June
