2  Definition : Using like or as to compare two things. Ex. Ava is as cute as a cupcake.

3  Definition : Using exaggeration to make a point.  Ex.  Gabbi’s smile was a mile wide.

4 DEFINITION:EX.  Sound words.  Shekijah’s dad’s tummy rumbled and roared of hunger.

5  Definition : A well known expression that does not mean what it says.  Ex.  When Kaylee kept asking Emily to help with her puzzle, Emily said “put a sock in it!”

6 DEFINITION EX.  Comparing two things without using like or as.  Shekijah is a ray of sunshine.

7  Definition : Giving human qualities to something not human.  Ex.  The berries were screaming “eat me first!”

8  Definition : Repetition of a beginning sound.  Ex.  The purple pansy’s pantry is pink.

9 1. The marching man might make a mouse. 2. That test was a piece of cake. 3. Her skin was as soft as a baby’s bottom. 4. The sun smiled at me as I played. 5. The rain fell and went pitter- patter on the roof. 6. I’m so hungry I could eat a cow. 7. Her foot is a giant’s foot.
