Who am I? Can you identify these Illinois critters? T. Trimpe 2008 http://sciencespot.net/

Although most consider me a carnivore, I often eat berries. The tip of my tail is always white. My genus and species names are the same – Vulpes vulpes. When solitary, I sleep out in the open. I take over a groundhog den to house my young. My average weight is 9 ½ pounds - less than many domestic cats! Do you know who I am? http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Education/interprt/wskids.htm

I have flourished alongside Man. My name, in Algonquin, means “he who scratches with his hands”. I “see” underwater with my hands. My coat is countershaded - dark on top and light below. I don’t really wash my food. Do you know who I am? http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Education/interprt/wskids.htm

I protect my young by leaving them alone. My winter coat and my summer coat are different colors. Hollow hairs provide me insulation from the cold. I cannot travel in deep snow. I use a white “flag” to warn of danger. Do you know who I am? http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Education/interprt/wskids.htm
