UArctic Programs Graduate Studies Call for lead institution for the UArctic Graduate Area in early fall 2007 led to five applications. On December 7 the UArctic Board of Governors did select the proposed University of Lapland and University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) to jointly lead the UArctic Graduate Area

UArctic Programs Funding Increased amount of project funding: >4 million Euro project value documented for 2007 at UArctic offices and the 1/3 of members that reported. UArctic offices hosted by members has additional 1.4 million Euro in turnover, 60% in kind. Increased government funding, in particular in Canada for 2007 Increased member engagement, including in kind funding Very poor reporting by members on the economics of their UArctic involvement.

UArctic Rectors Forum - Charter We, as leaders of UArctic’s Higher Education members, on behalf of our respective institutions, hereby agree to the provisions set out in this Charter and jointly commit to strive towards: 1.develop and use UArctic as a tool to implement the institutions’ tasks on conducting higher education and research relevant to local, regional, and international Circumpolar northern communities; 2.cooperate in research and science on the north, building on each other’s strengths; 3.support the initiation and participation in relevant Thematic Networks as mechanisms for joint academic cooperation at the Circumpolar level; 4.promote student mobility and organize good quality student support services for incoming students from UArctic member institutions; 5.honour and facilitate the recognition of academic credit taken at other UArctic member institutions; 6.organize the sharing of expertise through facilitating the exchange of academic staff; 7.offer UArctic’s Circumpolar Studies to our students and participate in its development and implementation; 8.promote undergraduate education and training in the Circumpolar North; 9.participate in the development and implementation of joint graduate programming on northern issues; 10.share our northern relevant course offerings through the UArctic Studies Catalog; 11.participate in the joint international marketing of our programs and to promote the north as a study destination of choice globally; 12.recognize the integral role of indigenous peoples and their knowledge in northern education, and seek to engage and incorporate their perspectives and teachings in both traditional and indigenous knowledge and to meet their needs in all of its activities.
