Principal’s Report Absent due to training with Dr. Clayton Cook and Positive Student Support Team Staffing Update: Went out in this week’s Growl Continuing to interview and hire SBAC: Hoping to have results by end of year 3rd Grade ELA letters went home to families who scored at a level 1 inviting them to a summer reading program. With district tech dollars – another laptop cart was ordered for the building – to arrive late Fall 2015. SAGE/MERLIN: Letters to families this Friday – all families will receive a letter with student CoGat results.

Principal’s Report PTSA Budget: Excited about fundraisers Like the idea of recess support – need to think carefully about what that would look like Discussion about having master drummer Sowah Mensah come back to GR – what might that timeline look like? Author Visit: Ralph Fletcher (guru on boys and writing) will be coming in September. He will be doing assemblies with all students, staff training before school and a parent night. Need to find way to fund him – total cost: $2,300 Summerfest: Teachers are signing up to help out

President’s Report State PTA Convention April 17-19, 2015 Group Awards Silver: Taking Significant Action (Kindness Week) & Standards of Excellence Bronze: Communications Strategy & Website PTSA Survey Results Highlights of Year

A few highlights… After School Movies – 11 sessions offered for the kids raising over $3,600! Art Docent Program – New curriculum, more than 50 volunteers delivering monthly art lessons. Book Fair – $3,200 cash and $1,487 in Scholastic dollars to augment our Library. Box Tops - $2,347 worth of Box Tops collected, rank #32 out of 2,000+ schools in Washington State Cultural Diversity Council – Five months of biweekly recess activities, crafts & games from 11 countries. Cultural Fair – Booths representing 37 countries, more than 100 volunteers, dance and music performances on multi-cultural stage. Fall-O-Ween – October all-school festival featuring costumes, games, prizes and other Fall fun! Feed Gilman – $14,000 for teacher stipends and grade-level classroom enrichment! Gift-a-Book – Over 200 books (worth $3,985 combined) donated to the Library. Grizzly Patch Garden – Fall/Spring Thursday recess activities. 18,000 ladybugs released for Earth Day with generous help from IHCA. Kindness Week– Joint effort with Student Council. More than 27,000 acts of kindness performed! Parent Education – Three scintillating sessions on homework, assessments, & girl friendship issues. Reflections – 34 student art entries, 5 District finalists, 3 state-level award winners. Technology – $25,000 granted to school for purchase of 30 laptop computers and 2 mobile carts. Summerfest – End of year celebration for the entire school. Organization of & Volunteers for: People Movers, Lunch Helpers, Picture Days, Vision & Hearing, Kinder Registration, Bear Hunt, Room Parents… and so much more!

Programs Bellevue Art Museum Art of Discovery exhibit here May 29-June 11. Seven pieces of artwork on the theme of “Exploring People in Art” Over 300 students will visit the BAM exhibit—for a cost of only $150.

Advocacy Report ISD 2016 Bond Committee $518.5 million bond measure approved on May 6. The bond measure likely will appear on ballots in spring 2016. Bond components include: 4th comprehensive high school 1 new middle school 2 new elementary schools funds to acquire property for the new schools expand and remodel 5 elementary schools, two middle schools, and the District Admin Building State Budget: Legislature still in special session

Advocacy Report State Budget: Legislators continue budget negotiations on 2015-17 operating and capital budget proposals as the special session that began on April 29 is set to end today. If legislators are unable to agree on a state spending plan, the governor may call another 30-day special session. Washington’s fiscal year begins on July 1 and the state could face a government shutdown if no deal is reached by then.
