Or… How to impress your friends and relatives with your amazing mathematical brain!

When multiplying a number by ten, multiply the number by one and add a zero in the ones place. Example: 10 x 2 = _____ 1 x 2 = 2, add one zero, 10 x 2 = 20

More examples: 10 x 34 = _____ 1 x 34 = 34, add one zero, 10 x 34 = 340 567 x 10 = ______ 567 x 1 = 567, add one zero, 567 x 10 = 5,670

When multiplying a number by 100, multiply the number by one and add a zero in the tens and ones place (two zeros). Example: 100 x 4 = _____ 1 x 4 = 4, add two zeros, 100 x 4 = 400

More examples: 29 x 100 = ____ 29 x 1 = 29, add two zeros, 29 x 100 = 2,900 963 x 100 = _____ 963 x 1 = 963, add two zeros, 963 x 100 = 96,300 Math is so cool!

When multiplying a number by 1,000, multiply the number by one and add a zero in the hundreds, tens and ones place (three zeros). Example: 7 x 1,000 = ______ 7 x 1 = 7, add three zeros, 7 x 1,000 = 7,000 Awesome!

More examples: 1,000 x 27 = _____ 1 x 27 = 27, add three zeros, 1,000 x 27 = 27,000 342 x 1,000 = _____ 342 x 1 = 342, add three zeros, 342 x 1,000 = 342,000

Want to go to the next level? Here’s the rule: Anytime you multiply two numbers with zeros on the right side such as 20 x 140, after multiplying the two numbers (2 x 14) your answer will have the same number of zeros added onto the right side. So….

20 x 140 = ____ 2 x 14 = 28, 20 x 140 = 2,800 Amazing!

120 x 8,000 = ______ 12 x 8 = 96 120 x 8,000 = 960,000 Such a huge number! Aren’t we clever!

Wow we’re smart! 900 x 50 = _____ 9 x 5 = 45 900 x 50 = 45,000
