Prenatal Development Basically means what develops while in womb Most significantly cells begin to differentiate into the various body systems The neural tube develops into the brain and spinal cord and neurons form

What is infancy? An infant is less than two years old For the first few months of birth we will be focusing on different kinds of development –Physical Development –Social/ Behavior Development –Cognitive Development

Different kinds of development What kind of development do you think happens? Birth to 3 months –Begin to smile –Track objects with your eyes –Reach, discover, grasp –Lift head

Motor Skills continued Babies at this age mirror all images seen to them.

4 to 6 months old Smiles often Does repetitive actions –Examples Responds when spoken to Sits up, rolls over, scoots or bounces Laughs, gurgles imitate sound

7 to 12 months Identifies self and body parts Understands name Says meaningful words Explores uses objects Hides things Creeps, stands, walks
