Animations & Multimedia LESSON 9 #2.09 USING ANIMATION AND MULTIMEDIA

Transitions  Animated effects that occur when you move from one slide another  Applied to entire slide, an animation applies to an object on a slide  By default, slides do not have transitions applied to them  You can apply Effect Options to some Transitions

Transitions  Duration: A setting that determines how long a Transition effect should take to execute  Audio, which are sound clips, can be applied to Transitions  The user can choose other files stored on the computer to be the audio  Through Transitions, the presentation can be set so that it advances to the next slide on its own (self-running presentation)

Animations  Animations are effects applied to placeholders or other content to move the content in unique ways on the slide.  Applies motion effects to individual objects.  Animate individual objects on a slide to give the presentation a more active and dynamic feel.

4 Types of Animation:  Entrance : An animation effect that determines how an object appears or enters a slide  Exit Effect : An animation effect that determines how an object leaves a slide  Emphasis Effect : An animation effect that draws attention to an object on a slide that is neither entering nor exiting the slide  Typically used to draw attention to certain objects that are already on a slide  Motion Path : An animation effect that moves an object along a predefined path that you create

Animation Options  The Duration of animated objects can be changed  Increasing the duration will slow down the animation and it will display a longer time  Delay: The animation setting that specifies how long the effect should pause before it begins  Start Animation Options  On Click – starts with a mouse click, a trigger is a tool for a single click on a graphic object on a slide to start up another event  With Previous – Starts at the same time as the other animation(s) (no mouse click)  After Previous – starts after the previous object has been animated

Animation Pane  The Animation Pane lists each of the animations associated with the active slide’s content and enables you to make fine-tuning adjustments to them.  A Pane that enables you to manage all the animation effects on the active slide.  Change Order  Change Timing  How to start

Animation Painter  A feature that copies an animation and its settings from one object to another.  Similar to Format Painter  Double Clicking will keep the Animation Painter turned on until the Escape key is pressed

Use Animation Sparingly!  Your audience can become very distracted with “fancy” animation.  The focus should be on your content!

Adding Audio  Audio files can provide simple sound effects, music soundtracks, and/or prerecorded narration in a presentation.  Audio can be inserted on a slide from Office.com or your computer  Formats supported by PowerPoint: WAV, AIFF, AU, MIDI, MP3, and WMA  Audio files can be recorded and placed on a slide  Audio is formatted on the Playback ribbon

Adding Video  Video can be inserted on a slide from the computer, Internet, and Office.com  You can insert Video content using the Video button on the Insert tab, or using the Insert Video icon in a content placeholder

Video  Video can be formatted on the Playback ribbon  Start: Set to either Automatically or On Click.  Play Full Screen: When the clip begins playing, it switches to full-screen mode.  Hide While Not Playing: When the clip is not playing, it does not appear on the slide. Make sure that you set Start to Automatically if you use this option; otherwise, you will have no way of starting the clip.  Loop until Stopped: The clip repeats over and over until the next slide appears.  Rewind after Playing: When the clip is finished playing, the first frame of the clip reappears.  Poster Frame : Image that displays on a slide when the video clip is not actively playing.

Compressing Media  If you plan on sharing a presentation that contains audio and video clips, you may want to compress the media in the presentation to make the overall file size smaller.  This mode of compression is similar to the Compress Pictures command for graphics.  You can choose high, medium, or low quality, depending on how you plan to use the presentation file.
