3 Polling station checks First tasks of the day starting at 6.30am:- Ensure all polling stations are open and operating effectively Confirm to the Referendum Office when all checks are complete Support the Referendum Office with problem solving if required Escalate any issues that arise to the Referendum Office

5 Polling station checks What’s next? When all polling stations are open and operating the following tasks should be carried out: Polling station checks, special points for attention include: –Introduce yourself to the polling staff –Agree with the Supervising Presiding Officer cover for meal breaks –Check signage and display of notices: inside and out –Observe the flow of voters to and from polling stations –Ballot box: check location, seals and labelling –Check with Presiding Officers all items have been received (as per their checklists) Manage your time effectively to meet the timescales for collecting/reporting information for the Referendum Office

6 Outline for the day A typical work programme will include: –Initial checks that polling stations are open –Visit polling stations to complete your checklist –Covering polling staff for breaks in the afternoon, evening and at busy times –Collecting postal vote envelopes –Collating voter turnout figures and reporting them to the Referendum Office –Deal with emergency proxies and amendments to the register –Any other duties specified by the Referendum Office
