6-1 Graphing Systems of Equations N#_____ ____/____/____
2
System of equations – two or more equations Solution is an ordered pair that satisfies all equations. Where the lines intersect There can be 0, 1, or an infinite number of solutions.
3
System of equations – Foldable Get out a clean sheet of paper Turn the paper so that the long side is on the top Fold it into thirds long-ways (like a science-fair project board) Unfold it and draw lines where the creases are
4
Intersecting Lines One Solution Consistent (intersecting) Independent (one solution) Same Line Parallel Lines Infinitely many solutions Consistent (intersecting) Dependent (more than one solution) No solutions Inconsistent (do not intersect) Lines that have different equations Lines that have the SAME equations Lines that have the SAME slope but different intercepts
5
Ex 1 Which system has no solution, one solution or infinitely many solutions.
6
Ex 2 Solve the system of equations. y = -x + 8 y = 4x - 7
7
Ex 3 Solve the system of equations. x – 2y = 4 x – 2y = -12
8
Ex 4 Solve the system of equations. 2x – y = -3 8x – 4y = -12
