Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop SISO SAC Groups Product Development Groups (PDGs) –Created as the result of the Product Nomination (PN) –PDGs perform steps 2 & 3 of the BPDP –PDG Officers and the SAC perform step 4 of the BPDP –PDGs exist until the product is complete Product Support Groups (PSGs) –Established once a PDG has completed product development Serve as the interpretations committee for IEEE standards Responsible for steps 5 & 6 –Offer continuity and a place for developers and users of the standards to Ask questions concerning the language used in the standard, the intention or result meant by a particular action Request an explanation of the reasons behind what the standard says Seek support Register change requests for subsequent versions of the product

Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop SISO SAC Groups Study Groups (SGs) –Created as the result of a Terms of Reference (TOR) –Chartered to answer questions of interest to the M&S community –Have a limited life; generally 1 to 2 workshop cycles –Can be a first step to a PDG Standing Study Groups (SSGs) –Created as the result of a Terms of Reference (TOR) –Chartered to: Represent a functional or national group Mature a potential standard Potentially to provide support to open-source software –Provide an annual report to the EXCOM through the SAC: Describing their progress over the previous year Describing their goals for the following year Due 1st September (each year) for consideration during the Fall SIW

Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop C-BML (Coalition Battle Management Language) Study Group PDG Purpose –To facilitate Command and Control (C2) to Simulation Interoperability for Orders and Reports –Initial Specification based on de facto international standard of the Command and Control Information Exchange Data Model (C2IEDM) for C2 C2IEDM recommended for C2 to M&S interoperability by NATO Modeling and Simulation Group (October, 2004) C2IEDM recommended for C2 to M&S interoperability by the US Army M&S Executive Council (July, 2005) Final Study Group report presented at 2005 Fall SIW. Product Nomination (PN) submitted to the Standards Activity Committee (SAC) for transitioning the C-BML Study Group to a Product Development Group PDG. Informal meeting was held at I/ITSEC 2005 to address SAC PN Comments. PDG Kickoff Meeting on April 6, Thursday, 1300-1700 in Salon 4 –Organization for Transition to a Product Development Group. –Planning for C-BML drafting groups –Coordination with Military Scenario Definition Language (MSDL) efforts

Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop CMSD (Core Manufacturing Simulation Data) PDG Released a draft version of the Core Manufacturing Simulation Data Information Model in UML on February 28, 2006. It is an update and enhancement to the "strawman" specification titled "NIST Shop Data Model and Interface Specification." Core Manufacturing Simulation Data Information Model in XML schema and XML instance documents to follow. PDG meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 7:00-9:00 pm in Room 2 (East Hall) to provide an update on the released draft document - 2006 Spring SIW.

Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop EDCS (Environmental Data Coding Specification) PDG Objectives for Spring 2006 SIW : –The Spring 2006 meeting will be focused on reviewing a Draft SSG TOR in order to set up a new SISO SSG as well as confirm future activities for the EDCS to provide post- standardization SISO support and maintenance in the areas of: New EDCS entries for registration, as appropriate, to meet evolving SISO community needs Support for EDCS evolution through ISO corrigenda and / or amendment to improve existing EDCS entries The review, evaluation and / or development of mappings for interchanging data with other lexicon The review, evaluation and / or development of profiles for use in domain-specific applications The capture and dissemination of lessons learned from using the EDCS and related products The creation of a forum for community education on application and use of the ISO EDCS Support to the community by developing aids in identifying the most appropriate EDCS concept for a specific purpose Past Activities : –Large “up-front” EDCS PDG effort to ensure the ISO product meets SISO requirements (2000 - 2002) –Post FCD, ability to influence EDCS evolution decreases, as does PDG effort (2003 - 2004) - PDG monitors situation as EDCS proceeds through the ISO standardization hurdles –In December, 2004, ISO recognized the EDCS as one of its international standards and at Spring 2005 SIW, PDG Drafting Group submits paper 05S-SIW-098 recommending SISO recognition of the ISO EDCS IS as a SISO standard –Spring 2005, PDG voted to recommend EDCS as a SISO standard, but did not recommend closing out the PDG –Fall 2005, PDG recommended that a Product Support Group be formed to provide post- standardization support and maintenance for the EDCS. Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop DEVS (Discrete-Event Systems Specification) Study Group Objectives: –Develop standards for a computer processable representation of DEVS –Increase educational activities about DEVS –Create a DEVS-based language and libraries to improve the learning curve of newcomers Activities : –Tutorials held at SIW, SCSC, AIS, DEVS symposium (ASTC 05/06), I/ITSEC –Prototype interoperable simulation between CD++/DEVS-C# (presented at SIW’06) –Online DEVS tutorial available –Different tools creating DEVS-based languages –Started discussions on a DEVS kernel in terms of an interoperable DEVS simulation engine (basis for the creation of a SISO PDG). Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop Mode 5/S IFF Study Group Developing the changes to the DIS Protocol and HLA FOMs to implement the new real-world military Mode 5 and civilian Mode S transponders and interrogators being fielded over next several years. Activities Since Last SIW –A “Mode 5/S DIS HLA Design Document” has been prepared with specific draft changes needed to the IEEE 1278.1 DIS Standard and SISO RPR FOM and GRIM. –Weekly telecons are being held to review the document. –Boeing - St Louis is prototyping changes to their F-15 Simulator based on the draft standard. Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) Simulation Interface Study Group One of the important challenges faced by designers and developers of learning, education and training technology is how to integrate simulation- based learning experiences with Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) environments. –This problem has many aspects, both pedagogical and technical. –A clear first step is to enable SCORM content or Runtime Environments to invoke and communicate with simulations in a standardized and interoperable fashion. This SG will investigate the state of the art and make recommendations for modifications to existing standards and new intergration interoperability standards This SG will be joint between SISO and the IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) Meeting on Wednesday, 0800-1700, in Room 11

Plenary - Standards Activity Committee 2006 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop TC (Transfer of Control) Study Group Developed a comprehensive and well-engineered revision to the DIS and HLA RPR FOM transfer ownership requirements. The changes were approved and are included in IEEE 1278.1-200X Draft 1. About half a dozen companies and organizations have implemented transfer ownership in DIS based on the new draft design with little or no integration problems. (Transfer Ownership is the term used for the process.) Activities Since Last SIW –Support new developers who are implementing transfer ownership –The Air Force AFAMS program will be integrating the design into their HLA version of AWSIM and the JNTC HLA Gateway is expected to be upgraded to support it. Decisions from 2005 I/ITSEC CIGI SSG meeting –Adopted new set of PCR categories. –Rate Control data Packet Coordinate definitions need tighter definition. –A set of sensor interface parameter requirements will be compiled. Actively supports Distributed Simulation Community. –DIS Help Desk. Requests for DIS help are received via email or phone requests directly to SISO or one of the SISO reflectors. –DIS File Library of DIS Documentation, PCRs, and DIS XML Schema. –DIS SSG Discussion group – forum for distributed simulation issues.
