Career and Technology Hybrid Challenges Hybrid classes: 50% online, 50% face to face Computer lab is required on campus Students need access to a personal computer, or library to complete assignments Students need access to the internet

Career and Technology Hybrid Challenges Labs (hands-on) are required to train students because in the real world: Someone makes it Someone breaks it Someone fakes it? (parts-changer) No! Someone has to fix it right the first time

Career and Technology Hybrid Advantages Hybrid classes: Instructors work smarter not harder Flipping the classroom / content Makes life is easier for instructors Makes student responsible for their grades

Traditional Student Pen and Pencil In 2004 –Students worked day or night Students were in class for five hours Writing assignments, taking quizzes in class Students completed course-work in class Instructors graded assignments, labs, and quizzes, by “hand”

Today’s Student Digital Age In 2014 – IPhones, Ipads, Smart phones Students don’t have a pen or a pencil Students can text, send photos Students can find information Students can Google

Today’s Student Digital Age In 2014 – Online Processes Bills, credit cards paid on line Doctor’s appointments online E-Books read online Employment applications online

Today’s Student All Digital Age? Some students don’t surf: Need to develop computer skills Need to develop communication skills Need to learn how to process documents Need to be Employment Ready

Students - Engaged Hybrid classes keep students engaged Hybrid classes are “Student Centered” Students know what needs to done each day

Students - Free Not all students want to complete course-work No matter what you do, some students are hard to straighten out Texas mesquite trees can not be straightened
