copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc1 ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMALS (1) GRADE 3

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc2 Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on Decimals.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc3 Decimal A number that uses place value and Decimal point to show tenths and hundredths. Example – 0.53, 0.86 Places in each Decimal – There are two places in each of the decimal given below. Example – 0.32, 0.47

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc4 Add Decimals using Models Step 1: Use one color to shade the first addend. Step 2: Use different color to shade the other addend. Step 3: In the place value chart, write the total amount.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc5 To add 0.52 + 0.23 0.52 + 0.23 = 0.75

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc6 Steps to add decimals.  Line up the decimal points.  Start with the hundredths, then tenths and add each place.  Regroup if needed.  Place the decimal point between the ones and the tenths.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc7 Add 1.4 + 0.2 Line up the decimal points and add each place value. 1.4 1.4 1.4 + 0.2 +0.2 + 0.2 Thus, 1.4 + 0.2 = 1.6

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc8 Find 1.41 + 0.98 1.41 + 0.98 2.39

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc9 Peter spend $4.26 for the lunch. Roger spend $6.25 for the lunch. How much did they spend altogether?

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc10 Add 2.67 and 2.56 on a chart Ones.Tenthshundredths 11 2.67 +2.56 1213 5.23

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc11 Add 2.36 + 1.02 + 0.3

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc12 Which is true about 1.4 + 2.6 a) 1.4 +2.6 b) 1.4 + 2.6 c) 1.4 + 2.0 d) 1.4 +0.26

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc13 Find the sum of the decimal numbers shown in the grid.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc14 Regrouping Regrouping is required if there are more than 9 tenths in the tenths place. In case of regrouping, put 1 over the ones in the addend. 11 tenths can be regrouped to 1 one and 1 tenths.

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc15 Which among the following is greater than 1? a) 0.23 + 0.56 b) 0.25 +0.45 c) 0.14 + 0.96 d) 0.26 +0.09

copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc16 Which is correct? a) 1.56 + 2.69 = 42.5 b) 1.56 + 2.69 = 4.25 c) 1.56 + 2.69 = 425 d) 1.56 + 2.69 =0.425
