Fine wool sheep comprise approximately 50 percent of the worlds sheep population Medium-wool sheep comprise of about 15 percent of the worlds sheep population Coarse-wool sheep comprise of about 25 percent of the worlds sheep population Hair sheep comprise about 10 percent of the world's sheep population Medium, Coarse and Hair sheep are either dual purpose or meat purely breeds making it about a 50:50 ratio of wool to meat sheep in the U.S.
