Context of Tallaght IAP: Strong working relationship between Partnership and South Dublin County Council (SDCC) EU URBAN Initiative

Aim: to ensure that the Urban Renewal Scheme would address the physical, economic, social and environmental regeneration of Tallaght Town Centre and the disadvantaged West Tallaght residential neighbourhoods Focus on unemployment and communities identified as disadvantaged

IAP outputs for disadvantaged communities : €1,475,312 grants for community organisations in West Tallaght €502,307 investment in small scale community infrastructure 262 general operative jobs; 34 apprenticeships; 28 work experience placements; 34 persons trained. Completion of large community infrastructure €3,818.362

What made the IAP work?: Shared vision Integrated cooperative model Political acceptance / support for process

What were the challenges?: Bringing all relevant SDCC staff along with process Clarity re flow of resources – how much and when ‘cultural differences’ Financial crisis!

What did I learn?: SDCC enabled a very effective alternative funding initiative. Success dependent on key individuals ‘Control’ remained with SDCC Not philanthropy

Building stronger communities?: Local Authorities supporting / partners in County based Community Foundations Building Foundation practice by contract to manage LA grant schemes Win the endowment argument
