BACKGROUND INFO…. I am 24 years old I recently moved to Tampa, Florida I have a beautiful black mini lop rabbit. Her name is Yogi and she has helicopter ears (one ear up and one ear down). I graduated from Mississippi State University in August 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Psychology and a concentration in Human Studies: Child and Family Development During my undergraduate years, I worked at a Daycare facility and a fifth grade school. I experienced the most joy with working with the young children at the daycare. I am currently unemployed, but I am working on Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Family and Community Services

PAST EXPERIENCES AND SCHOOL I began my school years in a Head Start program in Highland Park, MI and continued going to public school there through the 3 rd grade My family moved to Jackson, MS where I continued my public schooling from the 4 th grade through 12 th grade there. I started college in the Fall of 2008 at Mississippi State University. I participated in numerous activities on campus such as: Service Dawgs (A volunteer work organization}, I helped tutor the children in public schools, I was a member of Campus Activity Board (CAB) – which conducted a lot of student involvement activities on campus, and I also joined a sorority (Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.) and we have put together a lot of student activity and volunteer work. One experience that have made a lasting impact on my life, is a conversation I had with a high school teacher of mine. He told me that of all the children he had ever taught, he believed I have the potential to make a change in the world and that he wished his little girl would grow up to be half as brilliant as I am.

DEGREE IMPORTANCE FOR MY FUTURE With my MAED, I wish to obtain a position as a school counselor in the future. Having a master degree would give me the necessary knowledge in working with children in school. I want to be the ear they trust to listen to their problems and the person that will help them to make the best decisions for themselves.

SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS In the schools that I have worked in, parental and community support had been phenomenal. Most parents were outstanding, going out of their way to make sure that the school and classroom had enough supplies and whatever else they could help with. They would volunteer their services whenever needed no matter how often. This community was like none other that I have known. Often within some communities there are a lot of backlash concerning the schools but not enough support from the community to help fix the problems. In the community where my schools were, the parents and the community came together to make sure the children had the best quality education possible.

” “ The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. - Aristotle This quote by Aristotle fits my life perfectly. My journey through education has not been an easy one. I have encountered numerous obstacles that have tried to hold me back, but the thought of my end goals is what have kept me pushing forward. Trying to obtain a better education is not easy and one might get tired or bored and decide to give up, but the results who will receive once you have one are plentiful. To me the bitter roots of education is the journey and the sweet fruit is my career goals that I wish to conquer.
