3 Steps for Setting a S.M.A.R.T. Goal 1)Brainstorm what you want to accomplish this year (in school, with extra curricular activities, at home, socially, etc.). 2)Pick one goal from your list. 3)Use the S.M.A.R.T. goal template to make sure it can be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely. 4)Revise the wording of your original goal to include as many S.M.A.R.T. details as you can so the goal is clear. 5) Create a list of strategies you will use to achieve this S.M.A.R.T. goal and a chart to monitor your progress.

5 Step 3: Make it S.M.A.R.T. S pecific: What specific things will you accomplish? I will get at least a B on assessments (tests and quizzes) in math.

6 Step 3: Make it S. M.A.R.T. M easurable: How will you know when you have achieved this goal? When I see my grade posted on Infinite Campus as a B or higher.

7 Step 3: Make it S.M. A.R.T. A chievable: Is this goal realistic? Do you have the tools you need to achieve it? Yes. I currently have a C in math, but I know that I haven’t tried as hard as I should. I have the resources (notes, textbook, online textbook site, teacher expertise, etc.) needed to do a better job; I’m just not using them.

8 Step 3: Make it S.M.A. R.T. R elevant: Why is this goal important in your life? I know I need to understand math concepts for many everyday situations. I want to be in honors math in 8 th grade and high school because I am interested in studying business when I go to college.

10 Step 4: Reword your original goal, including as many S.M.A.R.T. details as possible Original GoalRevised Goal I will do well in math. I will get at least a B average on assessments in math by the end of 3 rd marking period.

11 Step 5: Create a list of strategies you will use to reach your goal and a chart to monitor your progress. My goal is to get at least a B average on assessments in math by the end of 3 rd marking period. StrategiesNotes (dates I used these strategies and my thoughts/results) -I will come in for extra help during flex at least one day a week. -I will review my notes from class for 15 minutes each night (in addition to completing my HW every day). -I will mark the parts of my HW that I struggled with and ask my teacher specific questions about the assignment the next day. -I will go back and correct my HW (reworking questions I was confused about) after asking my questions during class or flex.

12 Is the goal S.M.A.R.T.? 1)Get organized. 2)Make new friends. 3)Have a 90% or above average in homework completion for 2 nd marking period in IRLA and Social Studies. 4)Get better at wrestling. 5)Stop procrastinating. 6)Make the baseball team. 7)Perform a solo in the spring choir concert.
