2 Have you ever gone through what seemed to be difficult or unfortunate circumstances, only to realize later that God had worked through that situation? What were the circumstances? Why did they seem unfortunate at the time? How did God work through that situation?

3 Sometimes we don’t understand why God asks us to do certain things or allows certain things to happen to us. In today’s lesson we will see how one young Israelite girl reacted to situations like that.

6 Luke 1:31-35 confirms that Jesus Christ is the Sovereign Lord of all.

7 The Holy Spirit Enabled Mary to Conceive Jesus Only through God’s power was such a thing possible. We have His power available to us. We have the great privilege of helping share God’s gospel of truth and grace as it continues to bring peace to those who will listen.

8 Believers have the power of the Holy Spirit available to them for whatever God calls them to do. What are some things God calls us to do in which we need the help of the Holy Spirit?

12 The Holy Spirit Enabled Elizabeth to Understand the Importance of Mary’s Child Elizabeth pronounced a blessing upon Mary, the one who believed that God would keep His word to her. We too can be assured of God’s blessing when we believe that He will do what He has said He will do.

13 The Holy Spirit gives us understanding, and a special bond with other believers. In what ways might the Holy Spirit give us wisdom or insight into certain situations or circumstances? What kinds of bond or kindred spirit have you experienced with other believers?

15 The overwhelming volume of prophecies fulfilled in relation to the birth of Christ gives strong confidence that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.

16 The Holy Spirit Accomplished What He Had Begun Luke 2 provides us with a brief account of the birth of Jesus. The events are marvelous, but Luke’s presentation of them is low key, simply stated, without embellishment. We observe in his words how God keeps His promises.

17 God is able to work out His plan for our lives just as He did in the birth of Jesus. How do we respond when God scraps our plans and puts His own plans in place in our lives? When has God done this in your life? How did you respond?

18 To what calling or command of God do I need to respond in obedience, depending on the Holy Spirit for help? What steps will I take this week to do what God is calling me to do?

19 For what do I need to pray that God will give me wisdom or understanding through His Spirit? How will I pray for that this week? How will I plan to react next time things don’t go as planned, trusting God to work it out for good?
