The Housing Continuum Challenges related to housing affordability can affect many different households, not only those traditionally considered ‘in need’ As housing costs increase faster than incomes, “housing continuum” concept offers range of affordable housing options

Priority Areas Shelter beds and outreach Transitional & Supportive Housing Low income rentals for non-seniors – market or subsidized Public Open House : all areas should be a priority

Policy Options Supportive Land use policies –Densification, flexible zoning Relaxation of Development Cost Charges Density Bonus –Increased density in return for contribution

Policy Options Affordable Housing Reserve Fund –Dedicated source of income required –Community Housing Foundation Donation of City Owned Land Partnerships

Recommendations Engage in partnerships with other levels of government - to secure funding support Establish an Affordable Housing Reserve Fund to leverage contributions towards housing Establish a Community Housing Foundation Pursue strategies to improve access to affordable rental housing Provide on-going education, advocacy and monitoring
