The PPM project
2
The PPM PPM-DOM in Antares (already presented) Tests of the Vertical Electro-Optical cable Deployment of a small scale production model
3
The VEOC First tests to test oil properties and fibre properties under pressure 430 m half section of VEOC built at Nikhef – Learned a lot – Some things a lot easier than expected – Some harder To be deployed end of October in Atlantic at 4000+ m (on ship already) – Test of oil property (compression versus depth) – Transmission of fibres at 400+ bar In same cruise deploy 4 100 m ropes for long term test of Dyneema in sea (2 for 3 months 2 for 1 year)
4
Making a VEOC
5
Making a VEOC II
6
Deployment of Full Length DU with VEOC In March deployment of DUs with VEOC near Malaga 14 days of deployment with 2 LOMS As many as possible deployments and LOM- reloading When successful – Deployment of PPM-DU – Where?
7
Cable deployment tests All items must be on Texel on Feb 20 Items – 40 spheres + buoys – 2 LOMs – 4 VEOCS – Many compass-tilt-meters – 3 DOMs + VEOC for PPM Pelagia used for deployment near Malaga Simple ROV with camera probably available
8
Parts DOM for PPM-DU – All parts in hand or to be delivered soon – CLB ready in November (Spain) – Cores Production by rapid prototyping for Hamamatsu tubes in Erlangen – Cooling structures available – Spheres available – Instrumentation available – Power boards available soon (Greece) – Shore station electronics (need volunteer) – PMTs 62 ETEL and many Hamamatsu (>31)

CLB: CURRENT STATUS A completely operational CLB already exists!! Developed by Saclay Based on Virtex 5 Xilinx FPGA KM3NeT day – Bolonia 5 October 2012 – Diego Real9
10
Batch of 4 CLBs already in production: o Expected data: mid-october o Test to be carry out in Saclay where the IFIC team will be formed by the Saclay experts. Many thanks Saclay! o To be used in the PPM-DU Batch of 8 CLBs to be produced after validation of the first batch: o Test to be carry out in Valencia (Already started the process to install a test bench in Valencia – Saclay will produce a crate for the test bench) o To be used in the different test setups CLB: CURRENT STATUS KM3NeT day - Bolonia 5 October 2012 – Diego Real10
