MDC believes that EU is an important forum to influence to keep developing the hearing aid market The main messages are: ◦ Good hearing helps the aging population to stay on the workforce ◦ Good hearing helps keeping the elderly population active and self supporting (healthy aging) ◦ Hearing aids are effective means to provide good hearing for people with hearing loss EU 6

European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association In order to create attention we need to: ◦ Lobby to EU parliament members ◦ Generate data that supports our claims EU programs are being prepares: ◦ 3rd Health Programme 2014 – 2020 is an opportunity for funding of a project A project should be: ◦ a multi country effort to create EU wide validity ◦ organized as a multisite scientific effort with highly profiled scientists ◦ be created by a professional agency contracted by EHIMA Need for data 7

European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association Expand the Eurotrak surveys to give true European coverage Develop an application for funding a project under 3rd Health Programme 2014 – 2020 ◦ Involving primarily scientific institutions across Europe ◦ Some involvement from EHIMA members must be anticipated ◦ A professional agency should manage the project ◦ Budget for invetigation and application: € 75 k€ MDC recommends to: 8

European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association In order to create funding for adding more countries MDC suggested France, UK & Germany to contribute 50 % (22k€) of next phase OK from France & UK Germany: No! MDC recommends CEO’s to instruct their local managers in Germany to procure the funding from the BVHI 900k€ budget 12
