Early Years Patrick Henry spent his childhood as a lazy boy. His father a well to do farmer realized early on that his son would never be a farmer. His father decided Patrick should go into academics instead. Like many teenagers, Henry didn’t want to devote himself to his education. Henry married at 18 and soon had a small family. Resolutions Before the Virginia house Henry litigated 9 resolutions against the stamp act. Many present cried out that he was guilty of treason. He did not care. 5 of the nine were accepted. The Right To Bear Arms Henry was an advocate of the right to bare arms. He believed colonist had a right to defend themselves against any tyrannical government. Patrick Henry went on to serve three terms as the Governor of Virginia, his political beleifs were very much the opposite of his fellow Virginian George Washington. He was an anti- federalist and firmly believed in state rights over federal rights. During his lifetime he was known as a radical and a revolutionary. His writings inspired a nation to stand up for their rights as citizens and defend the values of the country.
