For many, childhood signifies a magical time filled with fun and excitement, when friendships are forged and happy memories created. For others, the path to adulthood is difficult and painful, fraught with uncertainty, fear and worry. From sunny days and ice creams, to mumps, measles and school reports, growing up is not without its challenges. The childhood collections at St Fagans: National History Museum are rich in objects, manuscripts, sound and film recordings, which give a flavour of how children have lived their lives in Wales from the eighteenth century to the present day. Covering the themes of toys and games, leisure, education, health and religion, this exhibition looks at how times have changed for Welsh boys and girls on the one hand, yet also acknowledges how the pleasures and pains, joys and heartache of growing up are timeless and everlasting We decided to take one of our Level 2 Training Groups to St Fagans to visit the “Childhood in Wales” Exhibition.
