2 Must provide 12hrs of power to the SmartShade Parts that require a power source –Tilt Joint Motor Subfractional-hp DC gearmotor 24VDC, 1.08 Full Load Amps –Base Motor Miniature DC gearmotor 24VDC, 0.66 Full Load Amps –Microcontroller, Mini-Max/PIC single board computer 5 V, 100mA Requirements

3 Power Supply Options ● Solar Power – 6.38” by 4.50” panel – Produces 0.15A, 9VDC – $57 ● Battery Power – 7.7” by 5.2” by 6.1” lead-acid battery – Produces 1750mA, 12VDC for 20hrs – $68 + charger ● AC Power – 6.3” by 3.8” by 1.5” – Produces 1.8A, 24VDC – Infinite life (while plugged in) – $49.95

4 Key Issues with Power Voltage Conversion with AC power Microcontroller requires 100mA at 5V DC power supply outputs 1.8A at 24V Will need separate DC-to-DC converter to avoid burning out microprocessor Safety Considerations with AC power Very Dangerous!!!! High voltage and amps if mishandled can kill Wiring How to wire tilt joint motor to avoid wire tangling during rotation? Motor located inside rotating pole.

5 Power System Overview Located in base Battery Microcontroller Tilt Joint MotorBase Motor
