Investing In Tewkesbury Extra Care Housing! In 2004 Gloucestershire County Council submitted bids to the Department of Health to develop Extra Care Sheltered Housing in Gloucestershire A successful bid secured £4M funding towards developing Extra Care in Tewkesbury The bid presented an overarching commitment to partnership working by all partners: Gloucestershire PCT, Hanover, Gloucestershire County Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council and Supporting People.

How does this fit with our Health & Social Care visions for the future Much stronger focus on providing preventative services Investment in holistic care systems that look after the mind and body as a whole Greater focus on services provided in the community rather than a clinical setting Delivering care where people want it most – in their own homes Offering alternatives to traditional care settings – maximising choice and providing opportunities! Bring services in line with Personalised Budgets

Commissioning the right services In order to achieve our vision we worked in partnership to ensure a true collaborative approach was adopted in: oThe recruitment of a housing manager oThe recruitment of care providers oThe recruitment of a therapy and wellbeing co- ordinator oCommissioning of therapy room to provide access to wellbeing services for the wider community oFlexibility across the scheme to provide opportunities and increase social cohesion by expanding services such as therapy, beauty, social events and activities to families, friends, and the wider community

Therapy and Wellbeing Services Moving towards prevention agenda… Recruited a personal trainer qualified in exercise and health who provides a range of activities on a 1-2-1 and group basis including: o Active balance o Reminiscence therapy o Nintendo Wii sessions o Organises events and trips o Health promotion events oTelehealth / Medicine

Physical Activity: A number of regular classes per week attendance – 10 -16 people Healthy heart Seated Activity Active Balance

Holistic Therapies Range of Complementary therapies including Hopi ear candling Foot care and Hand care Chiropody

History in the Making: Further Education Session 1: Restoration of Out of the Hat & history of retailing in Tewkesbury Session 2: Writings of John Moore and local wildlife Session 3: Local Romany talking on Tewkesbury’s largest ethnic minority. 14-16 people attended each session.

What has been really successful The partnership commitment to providing services that meet the changing need of individuals Flexibility and ability to be brave – to think ‘outside of the box’ in terms of care, support and healthcare, crossing the invisible boundaries Are already seeing the benefits and positive feedback from people who live at Marina Court and in the local community Already seeing a reduction in community care packages
