Equality and Technology Two huge challenges face the world: –Climate change: Technology and changing attitudes need to be applied to reduce emissions to a sustainable level to avoid an environmental crisis. –Development: Technology and resources are needed urgently to help alleviate poverty, health, illiteracy and food security issues in LEDCs to avoid a humanitarian crisis. Are there any issues in trying to meet these two disparate challenges?
5
Models of Technological Development: Increasing Equity? There are four models for developing technology: –Business as usual –Technological Convergence –Energy Efficiency –Technology Transfer TASK: Use pages 197-202 to define and exemplify each of these options for the future development of technology. Include FACTS and DETAIL.
6
Summary: –WHICH IS THE BEST OPTION? WHY? –WHICH IS THE MOST LIKELY OPTION?
