PROJECT HISTORY FEASIBILITY STUDY 1999 - proposition to renew the piping - ST discussions about the necessity - first contact with PS/R.Brown - asbestos analyze by TIS 02/2000 MARKET SURVEY JUNE 2000 - about 120 firms - information meeting in PS 06/2000 TENDERING SEPTEMBER 2000 - Bidders Conference 09/2000 - visit to the tunnel 1/2 hour - order 11/2000 to Iniziative Industriali (I) WORKS - 07.12.00-05.03.01

PROBLEMS DURING THE PROJECT STUDY PHASE - missing documentation - limited access to the tunnel - lack of experience of “heavy duty” work in the tunnel MARKET SURVEY/ TENDER - only one short visit to the tunnel WORKS - working methods- modified along the way TIS/ST - registration of companies- urgent work not possible! - cleanness ASBESTOS - method of analysis not sufficient- new procedures - responsibility ST/TIS - lack of knowledge on asbestos

STATUS OF THE WORKS CONTRACT - originally about 60% of the tunnel was to be done this shut-down - after the asbestos incident contract reduced to about 35% of the tunnel PIPEWORK - pipe installation work finished 16.02 - insulation work starts after hydraulic test 20.02 TESTS - x-ray tests 16.02.01- results 19.02 - hydraulic test foreseen 19-20.02 RECEPTION - reception of the installation latest 04.03 - PS tests start 05.03 - minor interventions during the test period(?)

FUTURE OF THE PROJECT REMAINING WORKS - 65% of piping in the tunnel - all 8 air-conditioning stations - technical gallery between PS tunnel and b. 355 - at least 5 more years LIMITATIONS - ST/CV project budget cuts - general asbestos removal PS- J.May SCENARIOS - half of the remaining piping next shut-down- normal length shut- down - all the remaining piping next shut-down- longer than normal shut- down - other works?
